I brought my 2011 Hyundai Sonata to Mint Auto after it failed OOP inspection and shortly before I planned to trade it in. The car had been sitting for about seven weeks and I had just reinstalled the battery when the check engine light came on. I explained this clearly when I dropped the vehicle off and asked them to simply tighten the battery connection and clear the check engine light. Instead, I was told the issue was a faulty MAP sensor and was quoted $350 to clear the light and reset the system. In my experience in Ontario, this type of work is typically under $150. I also received a list of additional repairs they felt I should do, including a ball joint repair quoted at near $1,250, even though the inspection shop that failed the vehicle had quoted $600 for the same repair. Given the age of the car, I declined everything except clearing the engine light, which is what I asked them to do originally. The turnaround time was also frustrating. I dropped the car off around 9 AM and did not get it back until nearly 4 PM, essentially an entire day for what appeared to be a simple diagnostic and reset, and the shop did not seem busy. What concerned me most was the lack of customer care. I openly told them the pricing felt high, once I returned to pick the car up, and that I was a first time customer. There was no effort to work with me or offer any goodwill. Instead, I was told, “you could have walked back, taken your car and go when we called you with the diagnosis after lunch.” That response alone made it clear my business did not matter to them. The check engine light was cleared. However, between the pricing, the long wait, and the dismissive response when I raised concerns, I will not be returning. I have since traded the vehicle, literally the next morning, and will be taking my new truck elsewhere for service. I highly do not recommend this business. Busy people don’t have time to get a car diagnosis especially for something as simple as a check engine light, and then proceed to shop around, taking their car to different places for quotes, but if you do, guaranteed this is not an affordable or fairly priced establishment and I live 20 min walk from them (in winter I walked). This is my neighborhood mechanic as well 🤯 that is priced like this, far more had this attitude.
I'm so sorry you feel that way. all cars are dropped off in the morning and when we get them diagnosed . We call the customer with the cost of repairs. We do not do any work unless authorized. As you authorized the work we continued on with the repairs.
